At approximately 3:00 AM, Argyle Fire Department was toned out to a reported wildland fire in the woods behind a residence on German Club Road. Upon dispatch, automatic mutual aid was provided by Defuniak Springs Fire Department and an ambulance from Walton County Fire Rescue.
Brush 9 arrived in the area and observed a large body of fire deep in the woods. Due to the visible flames and potential need for additional water supply, Liberty Fire District was requested for tanker support.
Upon Brush 9 & Engine 906’s arrival, crews discovered two abandoned trailers fully involved, with one already collapsed to the ground and a third trailer threatened. The incident was immediately upgraded to a structure fire. Argyle firefighters, alongside our mutual aid partners, worked swiftly and diligently to bring the fire under control, achieving knockdown on the main bulk of the fire within the first 10 minutes.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested and responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire. Argyle crews remained on scene for several hours assisting with the investigation and ensuring all hot spots were fully extinguished, clearing the scene at approximately 6:30 AM.
We’d like to thank Defuniak Springs Fire Department, Liberty Fire District, and Walton County Fire Rescue for their assistance this morning. Teamwork like this keeps our community safe!
